Why Facebook?
Victor Keegan has written a very interesting article in Technology Gaurdian about the the growth in participation of social network sites.
It’s view puts me in mind of that other seminal analysis of the impact of the digital revoloution, The Cluetrain Manifesto.
Humanity is returning to our roots. Mass production and mass marketing brought on by the needs of The Industrial Revolution have been a mere blip in our history. We are individuals willing to communicate with other individuals, facilitated by the web.
“Markets are conversations,” asserted the Cluetrain Manifesto.
“Privacy, like individualism, is unknown in tribal socities” said Marshall McLuhan
Our aspirations, thoughts and beliefs are no longer the sole preserve of the monolithic media and corporate conglomerates, but they can now be communicated and initiated by the individual. Hurrah.
